MurMur: Clay Printing | 2019

Team Members: Aleks Gontarz, Rui Hu, Victor Tulceanu

The task for the Material Syntax class was to design and manufacture a masonry unit that could take full advantage of the capabilities of a clay 3D printer. Our concept included the ability of the bricks to make a sound as the wind passes through it; facing us with a challenge of creating an interesting shape, but one that can funnel wind through it. The final iteration was a clover-shaped funnel that could be stacked by reversing orientation, and the funnels had varying lengths to control the sound. Our deliverables included a dozen printed prototypes and a mock article outlining the design and fabrication process.
